HARBOUR - ENHANCEMENT AND PRESERVATION

Introduction
A study is currently
being completed for Penwith District Council and the St Ives Harbour
Consultative Forum to consider ways of enhancing and preserving the
harbour in St. Ives. An Objective 1 Fisheries grant of £8,800 has
been awarded towards this study. The consultants, Poseidon Aquatic
Resource Management Ltd, are identifying solutions to some of the
problems and challenges associated with the harbour.
What is happening?
An open-day is being
held to provide the public with the chance to express their views
about the harbour, and to comment on various proposals. These
proposals include:
- Facilities to be provided for the
fishing industry
- Improvements to Wharf Road and
quay-side areas
- Development options for under-utilised
spaces and buildings
- Ways of enhancing and benefiting
from the unique historical, environmental and heritage "capital"
in St Ives
- Improvements in harbour management
- A new marina/harbour off Carn
Crows
- A ferry between St Ives and Hayle
Where?
The open-day will be
held in the main concert hall downstairs in The Guildhall,
Street-an-Pol, St. Ives.
When?
The open-day will be
held on Thursday 17th October 2002, with the public
invited to participate at the following times:
9am – 12.30pm 2pm –
5pm 6pm – 8pm
Why come?
Your input will help to ensure that proposals
for the harbour are agreed which will support the fishing industry
and provide new opportunities for economic diversity in St Ives,
while preserving the unique character of the harbour area. Everyone
is welcome, so please do come.
Will Trevorrow, Chairman of
the St Ives Harbour Consultative Committee stated "Everyone
feels that the regeneration of St Ives harbour is long overdue. We
are delighted that the consultants have reached this stage so soon
and think this is a wonderful opportunity to give the people of St
Ives a chance to air their views and see what is going on."
