ST ERTH
TROUT FARM TO BE REVITALISED
October 2001
A trout farm in St Erth has been granted just
under £38,000 of Objective 1 Fisheries Grants to re-develop the
premises.
The re-development of the St Erth trout farm
will enable it to start production up to quantities of 50 tonnes of
fish a year. Funding will be used to revitalise the trout ponds and
provide tanks for the trout hatchery. Once the production of trout
is up and running, the processing factory on the site will be
re-opened.
The farm will initially sell to local restaurants, fishmongers,
processors and pubs and sell a high quality, healthy, tasty Cornish
product.
Alison Elvey, Objective One Programme Manager is delighted that
the Trout farm is to be redeveloped "I am very pleased that
trout will be produced locally in West Cornwall to meet local market
demand. It is great to see old fish farms being revitalised with
Objective 1 funds to create jobs in Cornwall."
Stuart Craggs, the owner of St Erth Trout Farm
commented, "Without Objective 1 I don’t think a project of
this nature would have been viable. Its great to see that the fund
is accessible to smaller projects and this grant should secure a
firm foundation from which to build up production".
