FISH MERCHANT GAINS GRANT FOR FACTORY IMPROVEMENTS

Smarts Prime Fish, a fish merchant based near Newlyn, has gained an Objective One fisheries grant to upgrade its factory.

The project will include the installation of a wall, proving ceiling cladding to ease cleaning, a new entrance door for the staff changing area, and the removal of all surface pipes.

The project will assist the company meet its customers demands and secure customers into the future. This project will maintain six jobs, possibly creating one, if the factory trade and turn over increases.

Alison Elvey, Objective One Fisheries Programme Manager commented, "It is good news that Objective 1 is helping local fish merchants upgrade their premises to secure their markets and help their markets grow. Projects like this will help Cornwall’s fishing industry reach a standard that will secure its future in the long term."

Dr Smart, a partner of Smarts Prime Fish, added "The grant will certainly enable us to continue to provide quality products to many UK outlets. Staff will also be pleased to learn that their jobs are now more secure."
