WHEELHOUSE
REVAMP FOR 'GEORGES JOHANNES'
June 2002
Godfrey Adams, owner of the Newlyn beam trawler the ‘Georges
Johannes’ has been awarded an Objective 1 Fisheries grant for
over £37,000 to renovate the wheelhouse to help improve conditions
for the crew.
As the wheelhouse is situated above the engine room, it is noisy
for the crew, so soundproof flooring will be installed to prevent
this.
The new redesigned wheelhouse will mean that electronic equipment
can be placed in one specific area, so the skipper can easily use
all of the equipment whilst keeping an eye on the surrounding sea. A
new window layout will be installed to improve visibility and a new
seating area provided.
Alison Elvey, Objective 1 Fisheries
Programme Manager commented "Objective
One can really help modernise the Cornish fishing fleet by upgrading
wheelhouses, which improve crew comfort and safety. I hope other
fishermen will apply to do the same."
Godfrey Adams, owner of the ‘Georges
Johannes’ added "We are very pleased with the assistance
received from the Objective One Fisheries team. These improvements
will add greatly to crew comfort and safety. The skipper and crew
await the return of the vessel and are looking forward to their new
improved working conditions."
