FISH
QUALITY TO IMPROVE ON FALMOUTH BASED VESSEL
July 2001
The Ocean Spray fishing vessel has been awarded
Objective 1 fisheries funds to improve fish quality.
This 10 year old vessel, a wreck netter targeting
Ling and Pollack, will use the grant to refrigerate the fish room to
ensure that fish is landed in top condition. This is especially
necessary in the summer months when ambient sea and air temperatures
are much higher. This improvement in quality will help secure and
create future markets for prime Cornish landed fish.
Alison Elvey, Objective One
Programme Manager commented
"projects helping to improve fish quality will
assist the development of the markets for Cornish fish which has a
knock on effect to merchants and local restaurants as Cornwall’s
reputation for quality fish improves. Projects to help the vessels
maintain the quality of fish are very important, as a better quality
product helps the incomes for the crew."
Mark Greet, part owner of the Ocean Spray,
commented: "The chilled fish room will prove to be very
beneficial to our fish quality".
