Galley Upgrade for ‘CKS’
- April 2004
Drew Davies, the owner and skipper of the Newlyn
based netter ‘CKS’, has recently been awarded an Objective 1
Fisheries grant of almost £2,448 to refurbish the vessel’s galley.
The refurbishment involves insulating the galley
to provide additional warmth during the colder months and installing
a new larger table for the crew to eat at. The refurbishment will
improve the living conditions for the crew while at sea,
particularly during winter and in poor weather.
Jon Lansley, Objective 1 Fisheries Programme
Manager commented: "South West Pesca Ltd is very pleased to
assist projects like these that result in considerable benefit to
fishermen who regularly spend a week at sea at a time. By improving
the on board living conditions a hard job in an often harsh
environment is made more bearable".
Chris Glaves, owner and skipper of the ‘Helen Jane’ added
"Without the help of Objective One Grant Aid, there is no way I
could afford a refurbished galley. With tight quotas and having to
buy/lease even more fish there is no money left for boat
improvements!"
