The Cornish Fish Producers Organisation (CFPO)
has been granted an Objective One fisheries grant to set up a
website.
The website will promote fish; the fishing
industry as a career and provide information on the Cornish fishing
industry. In addition it is hoped the website will stimulate ideas
on all areas of fishing, including conservation measures.
The website will help promote fish in general
and specific fish, currently under exploited in the UK such as
Megrim, Pilchards and Pollack. This starts with a megrim recipe
provided for the website by Rick Stein.
The website will assist the CFPO contact its
210 members, which is often difficult as they are fishing, and give
the fishermen a portal to access fisheries departments and
government agencies.
Alison Elvey, Objective One Fisheries
Programme Manager stated, "The more
the fishing industry can use IT to promote itself and encourage
people to eat fish the better. Lots of people are interested in the
Cornish fishing industry but don’t know where to go for information.
This website will provide a starting point to bring fish closer to
the general public."
