ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW WADEBRIDGE LAUNCHES 'FISH FOREVER' CAMPAIGN
May 2003

Visitors to the Royal Cornwall Show may detect something decidedly ‘fishy’ about this year’s event. The reason being – the high profile presence of the Cornish fishing industry – promoted for the first time ever in the show’s history.

The fishing industry’s participation at the Royal Cornwall show is the result of a major collaboration between the region’s many local businesses. From boatyards and oil suppliers who fuel the boats, to the chandlers and the restaurants who serve the fish, the fishing industry is pivotal to the region’s economic future.

‘Fish Forever’ is the theme which runs throughout the entire promotion, designed not only to encourage local people to eat more fish, but more importantly to raise greater awareness and understanding of how the industry works.

The sizeable 1800 square feet stand will play host to a varied and exciting range of activities over the three days of the show. Visitors will get to witness and sample the mouth-watering culinary delights created by both seafood industry chefs, chefs from well known restaurants throughout Cornwall, as well as celebrity chefs from the Rick Stein cookery school in Padstow, as they give live cookery demonstrations using a range of local fish. Speakers from the Duchy Fish Quota company and the Cornwall Fish Producers Organisation will also be on hand every day at the show answering questions and providing a fascinating insight into the unique nature of the region’s fishing industry.

Robin Turner, the promotion’s chief organiser, whose family have been in the fishing business for over 200 years, is a major voice for the promotion and protection of fishing in Cornwall.

"The continued survival of the region’s fishing industry depends on the support of its local people. Through our presence at the Royal Cornwall Show we aim to both entertain and educate people about an industry that is the very backbone of the South West of England’s traditional business infrastructure."
