NEWLYN FISHING VESSEL RECEIVES GRANT FOR UPGRADE

David Pascoe, a fisherman from Newlyn has received a grant for his vessel “Little Pearl” to upgrade his tarbenson hauler.

This upgraded hauler will improve the quality of fish he catches and the working conditions for his crew.  The hauler will stop fish from being crushed, when the net is hauled in from the sea, by allowing the fish to fall away from the hauler.  This will also remove the need for the crewman to “stand by” the hauler to guide the fish over.

Objective 1 funding for the fishing industry can fund an upgrade of a hauler on the basis of improved quality and crew comfort, but any upgraded hauler must be of the same power and fishing capacity.  No funding is available for equipment which will increase fishing effort or efficiency.

David Pascoe owner of “Little Pearl” said “Objective 1 funding has enabled me to purchase this revolutionary net hauler for my boat.  Improving crew comfort and quality of the fish landed has made a difficult job a little easier, and more viable for the future

Clare Leverton, Programme Manager of South West Pesca Ltd commented: “It is great that fishermen are making the most of Objective 1 fishing funds to upgrade equipment on their vessels which not only improves fish quality but also improved the working conditions of the crew.  Please contact South West PESCA Ltd on 01872 270333 if you are interested in applying for funds
